A New Day

It is a brighter day here on Gosford Road. Rusten is up and around - ornery as ever. This is how we ended the day yesterday...

He had rosy cheeks with a fever. He fell asleep watching Veggie Tales. Poor baby! I'm so glad he's feeling better today!

Rich is going to the doctor right now. He still has somewhat of a fever and a bad headache. I have a feeling that they're just going to tell him it's the flu - drink lots of fluids and wait it out. He's concerned because several of the people we know have had this turn into pneumonia or bronchitis, so he wants to be careful.

I'm going to go get ready and we're going to take a trip to go get my anniversary gift to Rich. Five years this coming Saturday - crazy! I know he reads my blog, so I can't say what I'm getting - I'll just have to share after the fact. All I can say is it's not a video game. (He asked me already, so I can say that. That's always what I get him, but I'm breaking out of the box this time!)

With that, enjoy Reed's benediction...

Progress Report

Well, Rich went to work about 11:00 today. Rusten is actually doing much better. I'm having a hard time trying to keep him on the pull-out bed in the living room. He's gotten to watch a couple movies today. I also bought him a pack of cars to play with since he's sick. Here....he's trying to show you...

It's almost time to feed Reed again, but I wanted everyone to know we're doing much better. Thank you if you prayed!! Strangely enough, Rusten loves his Tylenol medicine. Ever so often, he'll ask me to take his medicine again. Have you ever heard of such a thing - a mom having to tell her child "no, you can't take medicine right now"?!?!

When I downloaded the pic above, I realized that there were a few other new pics that you might enjoy... This will show what we've been up to the last few days.

Safe in daddy's arms!

A picture that make you forget the screaming.

Dr. Mom

Well, in case you need it, I'm running and infirmary here. Rich is sick and has been since Sunday night. He just suddenly started feeling sick. He's achy, stuffy, fever (you know, the Nyquil commercial). Then Rusten was suddenly sick yesterday. We left for Target and by the time we got there, he was feeling warm to me. Then, by the time we got home, he was really sick. He sat down with Rich and threw up all over him. So...we have a myriad of viruses festering in this house. Reed spit-up a few times yesterday, but he's still the same old smiley baby. So far, I'm the only one making it through here. I'm constantly washing my hands, trying to avoid any illness...mainly because I'm not sure who'll take care of me! Anyway, we were up most of the night with Rusten. Reed is about to go down for a nap, and Rich and Rusten are already sleeping. I'm going to try to catch a couple winks as well.
So, for today, your healing prayers are welcomed!!

A Not-So-Addicting Diagnosis

So, I guess this isn't for the weak. The surface of the bruise started to feel warm, so we talked to Rich's doctor today. He is concerned that it might be a blood clot. Rich will have an ultrasound done to confirm. Until then, he will be "dependent" (I know, I'm having too much fun with this theme) on IB Profen for the pain and blood thinning. Jesus, please heal my husband!
Today was crazy with kids. I was ready to put them both up for adoption. (Don't give me that look...you know-if you have kids-you've felt that way a time or two.) Mr. Reed, or Deuce as he is more commonly known around here, didn't feel like napping much today. And Rusten was fond of the word "no" at unreasonable volumes! He was also having a severe regression in the potty training department which wasn't helping any anti-adoption campaign. Oh well.....as the great momma says "there'll be days like this".

My "HEROin" Husband

A week ago today, our new little nephew (Ryker) had open heart surgery. It was a very stressfull day, especially for his parents, Nathen and Sherah. They were champs - and so was Ryker. While he was recovering, our whole party made their way down to the blood donation to give blood for Ryker. When we got there, Rich was immediately recruited to donate platlets for baby Ryker. During the giving of platlets, which by the way is a two-hour ordeal (they even let you pick out a movie), the needle that was putting the blood back in him popped out of the vein and starting shooting blood who knows where. This created a hematoma, which basically means a nasty bruise and a lot of pain. Thus, the reason for my title....

It actually looks worse than this, I keep forgetting to take another pic.

Rich trying to ease the pain with a heating pad.

Since my last blog, we've had a haircut. Rusten actually sat down and had the haircut all on his own. Usually someone holds him, but he made the big plunge this last time - so cute there all by himself. Although, good behavior doesn't go unrewarded....he looked up at me during the cut and said "ku-ser"(sucker) because Jaime always gives him one. Of course he got a sucker!
What a big boy!

We spent Saturday spending my birthday money, drinking Starbucks, having dinner with friends and watching Indiana Jones. I have never seen all the Indiana Jones episodes, so we decided to rent them. Not a big fan of Temple of Doom, but we still have The Last Crusade. We'll watch that this weekend some time.

Getting him started early.

Finally, the other night, Rusten and Reed were in bed together as we prayed. Then Rusten wanted me "nigh-nigh" and shut the "doo". Then he made daddy take a picture of us, like mommy did of him and brother. It's amazing how the little things can make you feel special...
Loving brothers!

Drive-by Blogging

So, life has been quite busy. I miss blogging, but thought I'd at least make an appearance...show a few pics...
Our life has been consumed with house-hunting as of late. Blagh! It's fun the first 3 houses or so, but come house 501, it loses it's luster. We saw two today that were pretty old and trashed. Tomorrow we have an appt to see a new one and one that we saw last week that we want to see again. It's a bit further out than we want to live, but it's a very nice house. We'll see. Please pray!!

Saturday we had a babyshower for my friend Mandy who just had her second child - a girl this time. Her son and Rusten are best friends, as they are only about 3 months apart in age. It was a very nice shower and she got a lot of stuff!! Here's a pic of the gift me and my mom bought her:

The wrapped items are some wipes and a grooming kit.

After the shower, we went and saw another house (surprise!). We liked it and put an offer in on it, but were informed that they could only submit offers that were prequalified through Countrywide in the first 45 days it's on the market. We have 2 weeks to go before we can resubmit an offer. We'll keep praying - who knows, maybe something better will come on the market. Then we went back to Mandy's house and hung out for awhile. Her husband Darrell and Rich are good friends - we're there quite often!

Sunday was just another Sunday. Church, lunch, naps.... Then we went to the mall so I could buy some new clothes (that fit) with my birthday money. However, just so you know, the mall closes at 6 on Sundays...oops! We enjoyed a nice dinner at Red Robin since we were there. Here's Rusten contemplating his pizza...

To eat, or not to eat

Mmmmm...

Tomorrow is library day, but in light of our house viewing, I'm not sure we're going to be able to do it all. We also have a haircut scheduled for Rusten. Another busy day!

Well, I have to go feed Reed one more time, then I can crash for the night! Yeah!!! And to sign-off, here's a picture of beautiful Bako. I took dinner to some friends on Friday night, and as I was driving there, the sun was a beautiful shade of orange, so I took the shot...

For you locals, this is at the intersection of White and Old River.

The OTHER side of 26

Well, it's official....I'm 27. I actually don't dread getting older. It seems like on this side of 25, people actually start taking you seriously! Although, most people think I'm barely over 20. Everyone tells me I'll be grateful for that some day....we'll see!

Rich got off early from work yesterday and we went looking at several houses. Nothing "sang to us" (in the words of the Halls). There were a few houses that weren't bad, just nothing that screamed "BUY ME!". The search continues today.

Then we met my parents at Chili's for dinner. It was a nice birthday. It's just not the same as it was before kids and household chores. If everyone could stop pooping, peeing, throwing fits, etc., it might bring the sparkle back! I'm kidding - I wouldn't change my family for anything!!!

Here are some pics from my birthday....

Rusten enjoying some fries. My georgious hubby and chubby baby Reed!
My mommy and daddy!
My bubba showing off for the camera.

This pic, I'm sneaking in. It was from this morning, but I had to show everyone! I found Rusten with his new cowboy boots on, squating in front of the TV watching his Backyardigans "moomie". It was too cute a pic to pass up!!

A Day of Mourning

I realize there are bigger fish to fry in the world around me and the world at large. However, I request we all take a moment of silence for my poor Patriots that lost today. I am in mourning. They played a pretty lousy game and it cost them the record of the completely undefeated season. Alas, with this short blog, I retire for the night......
